Bobby Barton Scholarship Endowment (District 9)
The Bobby Barton Scholarship Endowment, sponsored by District 9, provides an annual scholarship of $2,300 to a qualified entry-level athletic training student.
About Dr. Barton:
Bobby Barton served as an athletic trainer at the University of Kentucky (where he worked with legendary coach Adolph Rupp), the University of Florida and Florida International University, prior to going to Eastern Kentucky University as Head Athletic Trainer and Program Director in 1976. He served as District 9 Director and as NATA Vice President prior to being NATA President from 1982 to 1986. He was a member of the NATA Placement Committee, Public Relations Committee and the NATA Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors. He co-authored the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s athletic training certification law, and continued to serve his state, district, and national organization in numerous professional endeavors. He remained a practicing athletic trainer while earning professional rank at Eastern Kentucky University and served as head athletic trainer for USA Basketball’s World Championship Team at the 1995 World University Games.
Bobby was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Hall of Fame in 1996, the Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame in 2004 (where he was the first athletic trainer to be so honored), and the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association (SEATA) Hall of Fame in 2007.
